Lots of the reviews described the product being too big when ordering the size according to the chart. The shorts fit, but they didn’t really provide the support expected. On the advice of a few, I purchased a size xs/s instead of m/l like I normally do.
When I looked at the shorts, I thought there was no way that I was going to be able to fit my skinny-squishy 165lb body in those itty-bitty things. But I did. And without much effort at all. They’re tight, but they’re not snatching my waist like they’re supposed to. Everything is smoothed out. No bulges. And I can breathe, but it didn’t shape my stomach. My stomach is still pooching out like it did before. There’s just smooth flub-blub now instead of multiple flub-blubs and no muffin top (which is nice).
I sat down on the bed to see if it was possible to still breathe (it was) and I looked at the package. On the back of the package it says “Plus-size black small” and it now makes sense why I am able to wear it.
I’m 5’11. 165lbs. All of my weight is in my stomach, hips, and thighs. I wear a size 10-12 in jeans.
Plus-sized clothing is made specifically to accommodate a body type that is beautifully voluptuous. Plus-sized clothing is labeled “16W” or “16 curvy” fur example. The W or curvy indicating that it will fit a fuller figured individual. I know there’s not a small in plus-size, but I think I’ve figured it out nonetheless:
I have a friend that wears a size 14 curvy which is another way to tell the shopper that this product is constructed differently from a size 14 regular. The curvy or the W are constructed in a way that allows a fuller figure to settle comfortably unlike the regular that would be far too tight and constricting in the waiste, knees, and calves. Anyway…
I checked on Amazon and found a plus-size Shapermint, high waisted shaper shorts that can be purchased in size S-3xl. These shorts are made like the curvy or W to accommodate curves that a woman who wore a regular small would not have. I believe the seller may have accidentally shipped a plus-sized garment when the purchaser wanted a regular rather than plus. And I think that this is why some buyers are talking about sizing down while others are describing being swallowed by a boa constrictor and not being able to breathe, or move, or sit.
Maybe if I had a regular small then I’d be complaining about that, too because, trust me, I may be skinny-squishy but I haven’t been able to fit into a small anything since 9th grade. And that was 32 years ago. 🤷♀️

Finally, shapewear that actually does what it promises. This high-waisted short smooths and supports without that stiff, corset-like feeling.
From the moment I pulled them on, I could tell they were designed with real bodies in mind. The fabric feels soft and breathable instead of plasticky, but it still offers impressive smoothing and support. They hold everything in without that “can’t breathe” feeling; I’ve worn them under work dresses, evening gowns, and even jeans, and they stay put all day without rolling or cutting into my thighs.
What I especially appreciate is the thoughtful design: a waistband that stays up, seams that don’t show through clothes, and enough stretch that I can move comfortably, even when sitting for long dinners or dancing at weddings. They also wash beautifully and bounce back to their original shape.
If you’ve been disappointed by shapewear in the past or are nervous about trying it, this is a great place to start. It’s supportive, discreet under clothing, and genuinely comfortable. The rare combination that actually makes you feel more confident instead of self-conscious. I’m already ordering a second pair.

This garment is very comfortable, the most comfortable tummy controller I’ve worn. I wore it for 8hrs to an event and as light and comfortable as it is, I was surprised by how well it controls the tummy, hips area. It’s high waisted and DID NOT fold down, but stayed in place, above the midriff. I simply have it a 4-star rating bc it kept riding up on the thighs. It wasn’t a problem with the thighs riding up, as I was wearing a skirt (with a form fitting dress/skirt, it may be an issue), it also wasn’t uncomfortable, just a bit annoying. I really do like this garment for control, comfort, and it felt very light/breathable even in the heat of summer. It fits true to size, I ordered XL, the same size as my leggings.

Its true to size. And it is so comfortable and not so tight when u r wearing it. It feels so beathable and none restrictive. Even tho it looks so small and tight putting it on.

I have been looking occasionally at shapewear for a number of years. I’ve seen some social media reviews on Shapermint products and finally decided to give it a try. Reasonably priced and good reviews. This tummy control garment is not meant to reshape you. If that is what you are looking for, this is not for you. But if you are looking for something to smooth out the rolls and lumps without strangling your mid-section, this is more your speed. I chose to try this under a double-knit t-shirt dress. It definitely smoothed out and compressed without strangling my midsection. I had no issue with the high waist rolling down nor the legs rolling up (which I had long ago with a similar type product.) This Shapermint product was very comfortable to wear for a work event and I really felt like I could have worn it all day, if need be. Be honest about what size you need and you will find a comfortable piece of shapewear with this brand.
